Reclaiming lives after Stroke
We are enjoying our Summer holidays at present and our weekly exercise meetings and Aphasia Conversations recommence on Thursday 8th September 2022.
Look out for details of our new session calendar on the pages of this website or if you are signed up for regular news via our text messages you'll receive news as soon as it's available.
Best wishes from the Different Strokes Northampton team.
Great news of help from
Manheim Car Auctions
Manheim Car Auctions
Back in 2020 we were contacted by Zoe Scott from Manheim Car Auctions in regard to raising funds to support Different Strokes Northampton by doing a sponsored walk up Pen y Fan in Wales. With the Covid-19 crisis this was postponed until this year and then again, due to the pandemic the walk was changed to climbing 3 peaks in the Breacon Beacons National Park, the Cat's back, the Sugarloaf and the Skirrid. So in July this year Zoe, with assistance of her family successfully climbed all three peaks ! Along with support from colleagues at Manheim Car Auctions, Zoe raised £750 for the continuing work of Different Strokes Northampton and we would like to thank her for the grit and determination for raising such a fantastic amount. Below are photos of Zoe, along with Matt Jones of Manheim presenting a socially distanced cheque to Jeff Prickett from DSN. |
Great NewsAfter what seems like an age! Different strokes Northampton will recommence it's weekly meetings for exercise on Thursdays and fortnightly Aphasia conversation on Mondays at Deaf Connect, Tintern Ave Northampton starting on September 16th at the usual time of 10.30am to 12.30pm.
You can see details of our weekly sessions on our calendar page although this is subject to change due to circumstances beyond our control ! There may be a slightly different feel to some of the meetings as we need to ensure that those attending are kept as safe as possible. It goes without saying that if you or a member of your household have any symptoms of Covid-19 you should NOT attend the DSN meetings. |

We are part of the national charity “Different Strokes” which was set up in 1996 to help (then) “Younger Stroke Survivors”. Today the term "younger" we feel is more accurately described as “active”.

There are over 35 DS groups across Great Britain offering support with exercise, mobility, speech & communication problems. The charity is run by stroke survivors, their family & friends & this group is the same, being run by those who have first hand experience of stroke.
We meet weekly for 2 hours every Thursday & offer a wide variety of activities including exercise sessions, led by trained instructors. We have speakers on different topics relating to our needs, mostly from health professionals. We also arrange excursions & trips to venues across Northamptonshire & beyond.

Alongside this, every week we have a drop in cafe where our members have tea or coffee & chat together about how stroke & it’s effects can alter a persons life. - Without any pressure of “feeling different”.
As well as the Thursday meetings, twice a month on Mondays we run “Aphasia Conversations” where we concentrate on speech & communication help for those whose stroke has affected this part of their lives.
It would be good to see you. Jeff Prickett Co-ordinator.
