        Reclaiming lives after Stroke
News of  this month's meetings.

An update on what's going on over the next two weeks.
On Thursday 30th March we are going Tenpin Bowling at Sixfields Northampton so there will be no meeting at our usual venue at Deaf Connect, Tintern Ave, Northampton.
For those who have signed up for this, we meet at 10.30am in Sixfields. Over 20 of our members are joining us to enjoy this different form of exercise!

Also on April 6th because of the Easter holidays there will be NO MEETING at Deaf Connect.

We resume our normal meetings on April 13th. Happy Easter.

News of a Summer Day trip!
We are arranging a trip to the Black Country Living Museum on Thursday June 22nd 2023.
We first started to think about this way back in 2020 but it had to be postponed due to Covid!
Its now back in the diary with details available at our weekly exercise classes.
Because of the size of the coach, spaces will have to be restricted so early booking is essential.
For more information on the Museum this link will take you to their website

Welcome to the return of our exercise sessions and Aphasia Conversations  which recommence on January 5th 2023 after our New Year Break.

Look out for details of our new session calendar on the pages of this website or if you are signed up for regular news via our text messages, you'll receive the news as soon as it's available.
Best wishes from the Different Strokes Northampton team.

Great News

Different strokes Northampton will recommence it's weekly meetings for exercise on Thursdays and fortnightly Aphasia conversation on Mondays at Deaf Connect, Tintern Ave Northampton starting on September 8th 2022 at the usual time of 10.30am to 12.30pm.
You can see details of our weekly sessions on our  calendar page although this is subject to change due to circumstances beyond our control !
There may be a slightly different feel to some of the meetings as we need to ensure that those attending are kept as safe as possible.
It goes without saying that if you or a member of your household have any symptoms of Covid-19 you should NOT attend the DSN meetings.

We are part of the national charity “Different Strokes” which was set up in 1996 to help (then) “Younger Stroke Survivors”. Today the term "younger" we feel is more accurately described as “active”.

There are many DS groups across Great Britain offering support with exercise, mobility, speech & communication problems. The charity is run by stroke survivors, their family & friends & this group is the same, being run by those who have first hand experience of stroke.

We meet weekly for 2 hours every Thursday & offer a wide variety of activities including exercise sessions, led by trained instructors. We have speakers on different topics relating to our needs, mostly from health professionals. We also arrange excursions & trips to venues across Northamptonshire & beyond.

Alongside this, every week we have a drop in cafe where our members have tea or coffee & chat together about how stroke & it’s effects can alter a persons life. - Without any pressure of  “feeling different”.

As well as the Thursday meetings, twice a month on Mondays we run “Aphasia Conversations” where we concentrate on speech & communication help for those whose stroke has affected this part of their lives.

It would be good to see you.   Jeff Prickett Co-ordinator.
