Reclaiming lives after Stroke
A Christmas Message from us.
Last Christmas I was pouring over DSN member's menu choices trying to ensure that everyone was served up with their particular Christmas lunch!
Now 12 months on I wish I was doing that again & looking forward to welcoming all of our DSN members & friends to The Lumbertubs.
Unfortunately this has been a year like no other with some of us loosing loved ones and friends to Covid-19 along with the rest of us having to cope with 2 lockdowns & the resulting restrictions to our freedom & putting a strain on our mental well being.
My only hope is that soon there will be solutions found to allow us to return to some sort of normality being able to again meet with friends & family & the news of possible vaccines being developed may be the light of a very dark tunnel!
The financial burden on some, including businesses & charities, has been great & Different Strokes has felt the effects of that loosing some of their fund raising initiatives that usually contribute towards their role of helping stroke survivours. For many of us our stroke is something that is in the past but there are people for whom their stroke is all to recent & are wondering where to get help, advice & support.
We all hope that the New Year will see the return of our weekly & fortnightly meetings but we may have to change the formats to make sure that we keep everyone that attends as safe as possible.
If you would like to receive regular text messages on your mobile from DSN just send your name & number to the to us on 07763 42733 & we'll add you to the growing list of those who receive updates.
Wishing you & your family a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.
Jeff Prickett & the DSN team.
Stay safe & healthy

We are part of the national charity “Different Strokes” which was set up in 1996 to help (then) “Younger Stroke Survivors”. Today the term "younger" we feel is more accurately described as “active”.

There are over 40 DS groups across Great Britain offering support with exercise, mobility, speech & communication problems. The charity is run by stroke survivors, their family & friends & this group is the same, being run by those who have first hand experience of stroke.
We meet weekly for 2 hours every Thursday & offer a wide variety of activities including exercise sessions, led by trained instructors. We have speakers on different topics relating to our needs, mostly from health professionals. We also arrange excursions & trips to venues across Northamptonshire & beyond.

Alongside this, every week we have a drop in cafe where our members have tea or coffee & chat together about how stroke & it’s effects can alter a persons life. - Without any pressure of “feeling different”.
As well as the Thursday meetings, twice a month on Mondays we run “Aphasia Conversations” where we concentrate on speech & communication help for those whose stroke has affected this part of their lives.
It would be good to see you. Jeff Prickett Co-ordinator.

Our first outing of 2018 to Milton Keynes Museum. This group photo was taken in front of the famous "MK concrete snowman"
