Reclaiming lives after Stroke
No! This isn't a lineup for the most wanted criminals in Northampton.
It's the 5 brave participants of the firewalk that took place on July 1st at Greens Norton Northamptonshire.
Pictured above (Shown Left to Right) are Genise Turnbull, Rob Ward, Andrew Dickenson, Kayleigh Sparrow and Danny Knights who between them raised the fantastic amount of £2,263.75 for Different Strokes Northampton. I have to say that Genise actully let her daughter, Robyn do the firewalk on her behalf. Isn't she kind!
For more photo's from the day visit the DS website on this link.

Our trip to Black Country Living Museum, Dudley
We had a great day at the Black Country Living Museum on Thursday June 22nd 2023.
The coach supplied by Poynters collected us from the Spencer Community Centre to deliver us to the Museum in time for coffee. The weather stayed fine and we were able to enjoy the various amenities and a large queue formed at the traditional fish and chip shop at lunchtime!
We would like to thank the staff of Black Country Museum for their help in making this such a memorable day.

We are part of the national charity “Different Strokes” which was set up in 1996 to help (then) “Younger Stroke Survivors”. Today the term "younger" we feel is more accurately described as “active”.

There are many DS groups across Great Britain offering support with exercise, mobility, speech & communication problems. The charity is run by stroke survivors, their family & friends & this group is the same, being run by those who have first hand experience of stroke.
We meet weekly for 2 hours every Thursday & offer a wide variety of activities including exercise sessions, led by trained instructors. We have speakers on different topics relating to our needs, mostly from health professionals. We also arrange excursions & trips to venues across Northamptonshire & beyond.

Alongside this, every week we have a drop in cafe where our members have tea or coffee & chat together about how stroke & it’s effects can alter a persons life. - Without any pressure of “feeling different”.
As well as the Thursday meetings, twice a month on Mondays we run “Aphasia Conversations” where we concentrate on speech & communication help for those whose stroke has affected this part of their lives.
It would be good to see you. Jeff Prickett Co-ordinator.

Our first outing of 2018 to Milton Keynes Museum. This group photo was taken in front of the famous "MK concrete snowman"
